Why  are Communication Advances a Global Problem?

Communication Advances :

  •  Creates a Digital Divide: A major gap between those who obtain and benefit from technologies and those who are unfortunate and don't have access to technologies at all
  • Causes a large amount of people to remain uneducated and illiterate
  • Limits one's opportunity  to obtain a job and/or a  successful career
  • Forces little Economic Growth upon a country
  • Keeps low-income countries in poverty and reduces their chances for developing

Countries Impacted:

India-

  • About half of the Indian population is illiterate
  • About 350 million Indians live on less than $1 per day
  • One in four Indians have access to clean water

Africa

  • More than half of the African population has not received an education
  • Very little amount of people have access to the internet and phone-lines

Global Concern:

The advance of communication is a major global concern because while higher income countries continue to introduce new technologies, the lower income countries are not informed and therefore remain poor. On top of that, the people in underdeveloped countries are most likely to remain uneducated and illiterate. Unfortunately, not only one country is affected by this issue, but numerous underdeveloped countries around the world as well.
