                       "Hole in the Wall"

An Indian computer scientist , Dr. Sugata Mitra, developed this experiment to test the effects of technology among lower-class people, and how they benefited from using it.

As a result, many children were curious about the computers and learned how to use them right away.

Overall, accessing and using the web allowed children to become more knowledgeable and confident about themselves.

                           ICT Networks

The World Bank plays a major role in expanding ICT (Information and Communication Technology) Networks throughout the world. The private investors basically invest money in poor countries with the hope of promoting development and ending poverty. For example: implementing ICT's in Africa helped increase the amount of mobile subscriptions from 1 to 17% in about 16 years. As a result, many people benefited from the rising technology and began to live improved lives. 





 







                    Village Phone Program

The village phone program, assisted by the IFC ( International Finance Corporation), was designed to expand  communication to rural areas where they would not have access otherwise. Many people can benefit from employment by charging others for the use of airtime used on the phones. This program not only helps decrease the gap of the digital divide between the rich and the poor, but helps improve people's health and education as well.

                    Eastern African Submarine             Cable System

The Eastern African Submarine Cable System, also assisted by the IFC, was designed to provide internet access to numerous people while keeping the costs low. In result, the amount of subscribers is predicted to triple, thus ensuring many benefits to the economy and people of Africa.
